Houston, TX – Concern Over Pending Bail Reform Bill Mounts As HB-3011 Set For Showdown April 17

Criminal Justice Reform, as it relates to pretrial release, will be on center stage April 17 @ 2:00 pm during a public hearing on House Bill 3011 – a Bill sponsored by Andrew Murr which is designed to promote the pretrial release of offenders…without the constraints of bail.

Houston – House Bill 3011 would eliminate the fundamental constitutional right to bail in criminal cases and simultaneously let hardened criminals out of jail free because they say they are poor.  In so doing, the legislation will cost the State of Texas hundreds of millions of dollars, which will instead go toward new criminal welfare programs.  This move will also put out of business the bail bondsmen and bounty hunters who deal with criminal defendants today at no cost to the citizens of the State of Texas so that justice can be done.

To compound the problem, the new state bail computers are supposedly going to be able to predict who is going to commit another crime and who is going to flee.  New Jersey, who implemented similar laws January 1, are handing get out of “Get Out of Jail Free” cards to “low-risk” heroin dealers, child sex offenders, gun criminals, and hardened gang members.

Bail reform will destroy criminal accountability in Texas, give repeat criminals a free pass, all while wiping out an entire private industry.  Stop House Bill 3011 in Texas.
