Newark Police Department issued a Nixle alert seeking information from the public after a NJ Bail Reform ankle monitor was found at Avon & South 17th street – apparently cut-off by a defendant who was released on pretrial monitoring under NJ Bail Reform.
We can’t help but ask…
- How is it that pretrial services didn’t know about this issue before the ankle monitor was found in the street?
- What information are the exactly looking for? The identity of the defendant? What kind of scissors they used? We can only assume that they know the identity, right?
Regardless, let’s hope the defendant that cut this monitor off is located soon.

Newark Police Seek the Public’s Information Regarding Found Electronic Monitoring Bracelet

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose is seeking information from the public regarding an electronic monitoring bracelet found yesterday.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., Newark Police officers located an electronic monitoring bracelet at Avon Avenue and South 17th Street. Using GPS technology, electronic monitoring bracelets are affixed to the ankle of certain released defendants in lieu of bail to ensure their whereabouts pending an upcoming court appearance. Defendants are prohibited from removing or tampering with the devices.
While police are actively investigating this incident, we seek the public’s assistance with any information regarding the found electronic monitoring bracelet. This investigation is active and ongoing.
