Suspects caught moments after 911 call of burglary in Wharton

(reported by the Daily Record – June 2 2017)

Borough police apprehended two suspected burglars within minutes of a 911 call Thursday from an occupant of a St. Mary’s Street home who reported the intruder was inside the house.

During the investigation, a Daisy BB gun fell out of the shorts one suspect was wearing as he spoke to detectives. Police later found that the same suspect – identified as Jhevan R. McCollough, 20, of Wharton – had dropped his cell phone in the basement of the burgled residence, according to court records.

Police were dispatched Thursday at 11:51 a.m. to the home on a report from a person “in imminent fear” because there was an unknown person or persons in the house, court records said.

Upon arrival, police located McCollough in the driveway near an open basement door. The victim of the break-in was located hiding on a rear, second-floor roof of the house, court records said.

The victim advised that a person – later identified as Emanuel Garcia, 31, of Route 46, Dover – was in the house and ran out the front door. The victim said that a wallet containing more than $200 was missing, court records said.

Garcia was later located in the immediate vicinity of the house by off-duty Wharton Officer Gregory Garcia. The suspect-Garcia allegedly admitted to conspiring with McCollough to commit burglary and theft at the house. Garcia admitted to dropping the wallet at a specific location as he fled the scene and it was recovered by police, court records said.
