Robert Goodlin, 75, of Paramus, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a student numerous times over a five-year period in the 1990’s.
Goodlin, who taught industrial technology from 1993-2002 at Joseph Battin School was first accused in a civil case against him and Elizabeth School in 2014. The case settled for $600,000 in May of this year.
Goodlin is now facing criminal charges of aggravated sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault by force or coercion, aggravated criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact.
Goodlin was released and FREE TO GO after his first appearance under NJ Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined that he was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

A former Elizabeth middle school teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a student numerous times over a five-year period in the 1990s, acting Union County Prosecutor Thomas K. Isenhour announced Wednesday.
Robert Goodlin, 75, of Paramus, was arrested on Tuesday and had his first appearance in court on Wednesday after he was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault of a minor, sexual assault by force or coercion, aggravated criminal sexual contact, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact.
Goodlin taught industrial technology from 1993 to 2002 at Joseph Battin School No. 4 in the city. He then taught special education at Battin until he resigned in 2004, and went on to substitute teach in Wood-Ridge and Secaucus.
Goodlin was first accused of sexual assault in a civil lawsuit filed against him and the Elizabeth school district in 2014. The Elizabeth school board settled for $600,000 in May.
A second alleged victim, who claims he was sexually abused by Goodlin over three years beginning in 2000, has since come forward and joined the lawsuit.
