John K. Azer, 24, of Jersey City, was arrested after he allegedly punched a man – breaking his jaw which then required surgery – after he was bumped into walking down Avenue C.
Azer was later released and FREE TO GO under NJ Bail Reform after the Arnold Foundation’s “Pretrial Risk Assessment” tool determined that he was not a danger to the community or a flight risk and therefore should not be subject to any accountable release – just a “promise” to appear.

A bump and a rude command leads to broken jaw, surgery: police
(reported by NJ.com – Aug 29 2017)
A man suffered a fractured jaw after bumping into a 24-year-old Bayonne man and telling him to “move out of my way” as the pair walked on Avenue C in opposite directions, authorities said.
On Aug. 2, John K. Azer, of Andrew Street, was walking south on Avenue C and the alleged victim was walking north when they bumped into each other and Azer was told to move. But instead of moving out of the way, Azer punched the man in the face, breaking his jaw, the criminal complaint alleges.
The victim was first taken to Bayonne Medical Center and then to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for further diagnostics. It was determined he had a broken jaw and underwent surgery the next day, the complaint says.
Azer made his first appearance on the charge on Friday in Criminal Justice Reform Court in Jersey City via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny.
At the hearing, he was ordered released with conditions of supervision pending trial, including having no contact with the alleged victim.
The complaint says the pair were strangers. It does not say when Azer was arrested or where the victim is from.
