Kearny man charged in bloody dumbbell bar attack
(reported by NJ.com – Aug 28 2017)
A Kearny resident has been accused of attacking a man with a weightlifting dumbbell bar in a vicious attack that left the victim with serious head gashes.
Eloy X. Ordonez, 38, of the 500 block of Kearny Avenue, was arrested after the incident Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses related to the metal bar, according to a criminal complaint.
Responding officers found the victim lying on the floor of his building’s vestibule with large gashes to the front and rear of his head. Police officers said Ordonez had blood and scratches on him, the complaint says.
Police took a recorded statement form the victim at the hospital, during which he said Ordonez attacked him with some type of pipe. An officer returned to the scene and located the blood-stained dumbbell bar, the complaint states.
Ordonez made his first appearance on the charges Friday in Criminal Justice Reform Court in Jersey City via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny.
At the hearing, he was ordered released with conditions of supervision pending trial, including having no contact with the alleged victim. His next court date in the matter is set for Oct. 16 before Hudson County Superior Court Judge Paul DePascale.
