Five arrested after assaulting lifeguards on Ocean City beach

Five men from Pennsylvania were arrested in Ocean City Tuesday afternoon after assaulting lifeguards on the beach near Eighth Street and attempting to flee by running through Gillian’s Wonderland Pier.
Breland J. Roach, 26, and Qwanayzia N. Nelson, 23, both of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Harold E. Corbin, 25, and Darnell M. Willingham, 29, both of Philadelphia were charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Trevis Willingham, 34, of Philadelphia was charged with disorderly conduct.
At about 4:30 p.m., Ocean City Police were called to the 800 block of the beach to assist lifeguards with several intoxicated and loud people causing a disturbance, police said. The men, who were assaulting the lifeguards when police arrived, turned their aggression toward the police officers who responded, according to police.
Two of the men ran from the beach onto the boardwalk and into Gillian’s at Sixth Street. Police and lifeguards ran after and were able to apprehend the men. The three other men were arrested on the beach. All five men were taken to the police station, charged and released on summons.
