Justice will be done – and not on the taxpayers dime.

On October 18, 2012, Bragg was bonded out by Apple Bail Bonds on a $75,000 bond set by superior court. Bragg was bonded out on charges of drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, and resisting arrest.

Once bonded out and the bond secured with co-signers, Bragg was interviewed and his conditions of release were detailed by the agency.

Since his release in 2012, the bonding agency has continued to monitor Bragg, as required by the court, and maintained accountability for his court appearances.

During Bragg’s release on bail, the bail agency monitored Bragg who successfully appeared at 27 scheduled court events over a four and a half year period.

In early February, Bragg was charged with attempted murder after a shooting incident in Paterson. Authorities were unable to to locate Bragg after “multiple attempts.”

Immediately upon notification of Bragg’s failure to appear on the 2012 charge, the bail bond agency began their own investigation into Bragg’s whereabouts.

During the bail bond agency’s investigation, it was discovered that Bragg was hiding in Florida. The bail agency’s fugitive recovery team acted swiftly in apprehending Bragg. Bragg was transported back to New Jersey and surrendered to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department in Paterson on Friday.

Estimated fugitive recovery costs for the bail bond agency was $9,000, according to Johara Samara of Apple Bail Bonds.

In addition, the bail bond agency will now have to file for remission on the forfeited bond and estimate that negotiated costs to receive exoneration of the bond will be between $3,750 – $7,000.

Estimated costs for recovery to the bail bond agency – $9,000.

Estimated penalty fee’s that the state will charge the bonding agency – $3,750 – $7,000.

Total costs for the taxpayers of New Jersey – $0.00.

“Even though commercial bail and true accountable release has now been virtually eliminated in New Jersey thanks to bail reform, we continue to do our job and provide accountable release and pretrial supervision on our prior cases – at no cost to the taxpayer. I take comfort in knowing that the criminal justice process will continue to move forward in this case and the victims will have their day in court now.”

  1. The tax payers need to know what we do and how we operate. The media portrays all those in jail as poor victims of society that are stuck in a oppressive system, through no fault of their own.
