Washington Twp, NJ – NJ Bail Bond Agency Captures Fugitive Who Was Released Just Days Prior on Bail Reform – Discovers Sawed Off Rifle In Process

Naheem A. Ballard, of Washington Township, was apprehended by a NJ Bail Bond Agency’s Fugitive Recovery Team in Philadelphia – just days after he was released on burglary and theft charges under NJ Bail Reform.

Another apprehension by NJ Bail Bonding Agency = $0.00 Cost to Taxpayer

Ballard was arrested on May 2, 2017 on burglary and theft by unlawful taking and jailed in Salem County Correctional. Despite having several prior arrests and a history of failing to appear, he was released per NJ Bail Reform guidelines two days later – FREE TO GO on a “pinky promise.”

  • ZERO Deterrent
  • ZERO Supervision
  • ZERO Bail…just a “pinky promise” to return
  • Dangerous, Reckless, and a Taxpayer Burden

The same day Ballard was released, he failed to appear in court on charges relating to another burglary and criminal trespassing charge which he picked up in mid 2016.

Unfortunately for Ballard, he had bonded out on the 2016 charge ($50,000 bail) and the bonding agency was closely monitoring him – as required by the court.

On Tuesday night, while attempting to locate Ballard, the fugitive recovery team discovered an illegal 7.62 mm sawed off rifle in the closet bedroom of Ballard’s residence. Although Ballard was not home during the search, the firearm was seized and turned over to police.

The next day, the fugitive recovery team caught up with Ballard at a junk yard in Philadelphia and took him into custody without incident.

Ballard was transported to Salem County Correctional Facility in Woodstown and surrendered.

Despite NJ Bail Reform effectively eliminating an entire industry in New Jersey, bonding agency’s are still held accountable for their clients on bonds that were already posted.

“New Jersey has essentially eliminated bail with bail reform – yet we are still servicing our community as effectively as we ever have – at no cost to the taxpayer. I’m glad we were able to take one weapon off the street and put an offender back into custody so that he may answer for his charges.”
